Palast Rock Hotel Gets Training on Food Safety Based on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points

Rwanda Standards Board (RSB) is training Palast Rock Hotel on food safety based on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP). The three days training is being conducted at Palast Rock Hotel  in Nyamata Town, Bugesera District and starting from September 5th-7th 2017.   

PALAST ROCK HOTEL is a Hotel located in Nyamata Sector, town center at 500 meters from the main road, Bugesera District, Eastern Province. The hotel has 67 staff including those working full time and others on part-time basis, 54 rooms with two Restaurants with a capacity of receiving 80 people, three bars, a SPA, Laundry, three conference and workshop halls with the  capacity of receiving 100, 50 and 20 people respectively and a swimming pool.

The hotel is in the process of acquiring a hotel operating license which has been introduced recently by Rwanda Development Board as a regulator of the tourism and hospitality sector. Acquisition of HACCP certification is one of the requirements in order to get that license.

It is in this regard that Palast Rock Hotel has requested Rwanda Standards Board (RSB) to assist in HACCP certification process.  Training in Food Safety based on HACCP is one of the requirements within the process of being certified against this standard.



Eighteen hotel staff dealing with beverages and  food  handlers  in the kitchen (vegetables and salads, saucier, butcher, barbecue, etc ) and customer care department are undergoing the training.



The HACCP system is concerned with the process of identification, evaluation and control of hazards from primary production of food to the consumption. . After the training, the hotel will start implementation of the HACCP system and thereafter apply for the system certification.
