Rwanda to Host ISO Regional Workshop on Setting National Standardization Strategies

International Organization for Standardization (ISO) offered Rwanda to host regional workshop on setting National Standardization Strategies. The Workshop will bring together participants from 30 National Standards Bodies across Africa and its agenda will focus on the ISO 2016-2020 Standards Setting Strategy.
In the framework of the new ISO Action Plan for developing countries 2016-2020, with specific regard to Outcome two: Strengthening national standards bodies’ strategic capabilities, ISO is organizing a 3-day course on Setting National Standardization Strategies.
The course targets the Heads of standardization activities (e.g. Director or Technical Manager) within the National Standards Bodies (NSBs) with management responsibility for the planning of standards development and related activities. The course intends primarily to enhance the ability of participants to identify methodically national priorities, taking into account economic, trade, social and environmental aspects of the country, to identify relevant international, regional or other standards or ongoing standardization projects, where they exist, and to decide on the adoption of existing standards, the participation in projects or the development of own standards in the light of limited national resources. The objective of the course is to consolidate the standardization priorities together with concrete actions towards their implementation into a national strategic standardization plan that can be used to guide actions of the NSBs over a period of up to three years.
This course introduces a methodology for the identification of national standardization priorities and builds also on experiences gained from similar workshops held a number of years ago.
The workshop will take place at Grand Legacy Hotel from 21st to 23rd March 2016 starting at 8:30.
